Open Skies?! We need closure on aviation growth to combat climate change

On the conflict between the much-heralded airline bonanza and the climate challenge—The Independent coverage on Saturday 1 March 2008 says it all:

Following yesterday’s list of new short-haul flights (groan):
Open Skies opens the skies up to more cheap climate-hostile flights.
This is why we need to draw a line in the sand,
or even in the sky,
to prevent Heathrow expansion.
