Further to the flurry of comments asking whether anyone else is experiencing problems with Google Mail, I tried to answer in comment thread over there >>>, but thought you might like to see images too.
This is one place you can check if gmail or google mail goes down and you’d like to find out more:
Currently, at 22:45 on 1 September 2009, that page looks like this:

I hope that helps those of you who were asking where you could find more information. It doesn’t tell you about today’s outage, but sometimes Google does provide advance notification of certain functions on particular apps operating in different ways (as in the comment about Docs in that screenshot).
