After seeing the Puppet Master at the Medieval Fair, and wondering about the history of some of the rhymes he had us chanting, this it a good place to begin:
And all thefe medicines, contained in this little packet, the doctor, through his bounty to the publick, is willing to let you have for the fmall value of fix-pence.
The cramp, the ftitch,
The fquirt, the itch,
The gout, the ftone, the pox,
The bonny fcrubs,
And all Pandora’s box.
