It is not possible to convey powerful memories to anyone else, but this section of the Berlin Wall is what jogged mine on a visit to the Imperial War Museum, London in the first week of November:

Thanks to a stroke of good luck, I was invited to work in central Berlin the first week of October, 1990.  That meant I was particularly well placed to witness and enjoy the celebrations—including those of 3 October 1990, Germany Unity Day.  On the night of Tuesday 2nd leading into the morning of Wednesday 3rd October 1990, excitement was palpable and sheer joy was bursting out with fireworks and music in all directions.  On the weekend we were able to walk into parts of Berlin that had been forbidden lands for our entire lives.  Amazing.  (The Goethe Institute puts the date in context.)
