  • Hear Susan Kramer’s call to action. She is Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park
  • Tune in to appreciate the audience’s feelings, clearly running extremely high throughout this topic
  • Listen to the question posed by John McDonnell, Labour MP for Hayes and Harlington and the responses
  • Imagine how high the stack of questions was!

The media should be all over this, as a national and global topic, but they appear to be unwilling to wrestle with it. Investigative reporting, nationwide and international feature articles, and op-eds assessing the Government’s grand economic plans and then proposing economic alternatives should be easy to find. Where are they?

London will deteriorate if Heathrow expansion goes ahead. Professionals I know may move out of this area, because they can! Others are stuck. We have more and more houses in our street being let to tenants because people who have had enough of the noise and traffic problems and who can escape do—and they are the very people who drive an economy.

It’s in the final twenty minutes, about the 3rd quarter, of this programme:

Listen again.

I had a ticket, and had heard that the Secretary of State for Transport, Ruth Kelly and a representative from BAA had been invited. As usual, they had other engagements. Private deals trump public consultations. No wonder proposals for Heathrow expansion raise passions in our area and around the world!
