mandatum novum do vobis

A new command I give you

John 13

34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

This is just a reminder that Maundy is derived from mandatum, a command.

Today, in Northern Ireland the Queen handed out an allowance (in a red purse) and 82 pence in Maundy coins (in a white purse) to 164 people—82 men and 82 women—who have made a significant contribution to church or community life.
