This week ippr is calling for the UK to lead a two year Europe-wide freeze on new coal-fired power stations. Our new report, After the Coal Rush: Assessing policy options for coal-fired electricity generation in the UK, says that the EU’s emission goals are endangered by proposals for seven new coal plants in the UK, and up to 75 across Europe.
