The world’s top scientists presented German Chancellor Angela Merkel with two statements in preparation for this week’s upcoming G8 summit in Heiligendamm. The one relevant to this post is Joint science academies’ statement on growth and responsibility: sustainability, energy efficiency and climate protection.

This weekend, Merkel was interviewed by Der Spiegel and, according to a report derived from that in Monsters and Critics, the German chancellor gave two indications of solid support for climate scientists:

“We have to orientate ourselves to the findings of the scientists.”

“I will not allow the scientifically based findings, such as those of the IPCC report of the United Nations, to be watered down.”

Hear, hear!
