Here’s a better picture of Wadham College main entrance on Parks Road. This example of traditional Oxford Gothic architecture, constructed in 1610-1613, is made even more imposing by the classical symmetry of the building.
(It’s an improvement on my earlier snapshot in Postcard from Wadham College Oxford University.) You can look through the gate in the Lodge right across front quad to the arched passage to Hall. Wadham College flag was flying well in today’s breeze, though it looks like it is half mast …

The classic beauty of the building is nicely counterpointed by the modern ugliness of the car… mind you, you should have been about 2″ to the L in order to get the door behind perfectly centered 🙂

You are right, William. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do about that vehicle—short of charming the crane driver (who was working between Christ Church and Merton) to join me in a creative photography project at Wadham (!)
.
At least there was no other vehicle providing symmetry on the other side of the entrance 😉
